MOAB Medical Aims for the Master Plan
The rise of the consumer – they used to be called “patients” for all of you old timers out there – has inspired former HMA and Curae Health development exec Pete Lawson to help launch a new healthcare real estate development company focused on helping providers build out more convenient, patient friendly delivery models.
Lawson has joined forces with a cadre of real estate, hospitality, development and healthcare veterans to form MOAB Medical Development, taking aim at the freestanding ER and micro-hospital space. Given consumers are more invested in their care than ever, their timing is spot on.
In addition to Lawson, partners in the new venture include Wade Hundley, former real estate and private equity veteran who serves as managing partner; architect/developer Darin Miller; and Eric Waller, a fellow HMA alum and the hospital operator’s former chief marketing officer.
With an eye toward hospitality and growing consumerism – evidenced through the development of far more comfortable and appealing spaces than your typical facility – MOAB’s team has previously dabbled in everything from traditional hospital operations, to condominiums, to casinos. Moving forward, as part of a broader system-operated ambulatory st
rategy, the company sees a big opportunity in Free Standing ERs and Micro Hospitals.
The company looks to take a holistic view as a full service real estate partner – offering build-to-suit lease partnerships as well as “taking the lead on master planning and working to understand the potential future value of the surrounding development.”
Bring it on, MOAB. We all agree there’s gotta be a better way.
