ASC Play Snaps Up Top CFO

Long-time healthcare finance exec David Skelton has joined national player SurgCenter Development as its new CFO. The largest independent ambulatory surgery center outfit in the U.S., partnering with local surgeons to create physician-owned and operated ASCs, the company has been involved with 160 centers in 26 states (just a few, really) since its creation in 1993.

Previously, Skelton was CFO at pharmacy benefits management company PharmMD, fertility play Vivere Health, National Renal Alliance (the name says it all), and Concord Behavioral Health.

Skelton sees the company as well-positioned in a sector with a lot of buzz following the 14x EBITDA multiple that UHC paid for Surgical Care Affiliates and rumors about Envision’s plans for its ASC division post integration. On top of that SurgCenter boasts an extant expertise in orthopedics – particularly total joint replacement – which has seen a major move out of the hospital setting into ASCs in recent years.

Further deepening its financial bench, SurgCenter also recently hired Acadia’s corporate director of finance, Dimitre Ouzounov (another Vivere alum), as VP of financial analysis. According to Skelton, “Dimitre helped Acadia close over $2 billion of transactions in two years on two continents.”

Sounds like big things on the horizon.
