HCA’s Chris Taylor Joins Disruptor Duo Whitney & Gatto
Talk about two worlds colliding, here’s an interesting (and exciting in our opinion) pairing: Nashville’s band of healthcare innovation disruptors, otherwise known as Health:Further and JSF, have tapped former HCA exec Chris Taylor. And, word has it big changes are on the horizon for the group.
Chris Taylor, former president of HCA subsidiary Parallon, is a legit HCA veteran – we’re talking 30 plus years. Safe to say he knows where the pockets of opportunity to disrupt, challenge and innovate are. He’s joined forces with Marcus Whitney and Vic Gatto as an investor, senior partner and board member. In fact, he helped raise a round of new round of funding for the organization to invest higher stakes in portfolio companies and open offices in other cities.
This new move marks an interesting shift in Nashville’s healthcare start-up scene, which both Whitney and Gatto have been whipping into shape for years. Whitney co-founded social media marketing company Moontoast before he helped launch healthcare innovation seed fund Jumpstart Foundry in 2010. Before Gatto co-founded and joined Jumpstart as CEO, he worked for nearly 10 years as a partner at healthcare and technology earl-stage VC firm Solidus.
Over the past decade, Jumpstart Foundry evolved from an accelerator to a healthcare-specific accelerator, to not an accelerator at all, but a “seed-stage innovation fund.” In 2015, Whitney and Gatto launched Health:Further, a festival-like event that is set to attract about 2,000 attendees this year. They’re zeroed in on healthcare innovation and their addition of Taylor signals not just their growth and credibility, but also the maturation and transition of the city’s healthcare mafia. Through his work with Whitney and Gatto, Taylor brings real-world health system perspective to solving healthcare’s challenges and disrupting an industry that needs it. More of that please!
Gatto and Whitney plan to bring Jumpstart Foundry and Health:Further together under one big, refined, well-funded roof. Partnering with Taylor is part of that effort.
