A trusted communications strategist and media relations expert, Mary Pettersen excels at helping clients navigate challenges, elevate their brand and enhance their reputation through media relations, crisis and issue management, thought leadership, executive visibility, public affairs, community relations and corporate social responsibility.

Pettersen’s expertise spans more than two decades. Her forte is maximizing engagement with key stakeholders to advance their business goals. In her work promoting innovative health services, she focuses on creating proactive storylines and being first to respond to breaking news, positioning her clients as leading authorities.

Before joining Jarrard, Pettersen supported communications for the American Board of Medical Specialties. There, she raised awareness for physician Board Certification, legislative/policy activity, hospital systems’ quality improvement programs and Addiction Medicine as a new subspecialty in addressing the opioid epidemic.

Prior to that, Pettersen directed business development for the U.S. Healthcare Practice of Burson-Marsteller and served as director in its Corporate/Financial Practice. In that role, she counseled C-suite executives and implemented campaigns across healthcare, technology and professional services sectors. Pettersen was also vice president at Cushman/Amberg Communications for more than a decade, where she was instrumental in leading corporate reputation and media programs.

She serves on the board of the Publicity Club of Chicago, is a member of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs and is a longtime supporter of Special Olympics and National Runaway Safeline.

Pettersen earned a Bachelor of Arts in mass communication journalism from Illinois State University.
