Why isn’t healthcare better?
No one is happy with today’s healthcare “system” – not leaders, not physicians and nurses and certainly not the patients they serve together. And the dissatisfaction is nothing new. Healthcare has been evolving, transforming, redesigning itself for, well, decades.
Yet, for all that, our industry isn’t transformed.
Healthcare is delivered today much like it was two generations ago…before the mobile phone, before the internet, before fax machines and VCRs.
Healthcare has stubbornly resisted change.
Telemedicine. Amazon. Consumerism. Price transparency. Population health. Rising costs. Shrinking reimbursements. Pick your favorite pressure. The question today isn’t whether healthcare will finally, dramatically change; it’s who will be Blockbuster, who will be Netflix and how fast will that be decided?
It’s a moment for big decisions. And it’s a moment for artists.
We’ve all seen health systems and healthcare companies bet big on new technologies, strategic plans or the latest management trend as they have struggled to stay competitive in their markets– and we’ve seen these bets fail.
Why do good plans fail? Because a good plan is not enough.
