Aligning a Development Communications Team Around an Audacious Goal

THE CHALLENGE

A nationally recognized academic health system sought to create a billion-dollar fundraising pipeline.

To achieve this, the development team, starting with its leadership, needed to be fully in sync and prepared to operate collectively with their teams and with one another.

THE SOLUTION

We employed a “train the trainer” model and conducted a series of four workshops for the development leadership team. In addition to learning about topics like preparing for change and improving team culture, leaders worked to codify personal objectives and link them to larger strategic goals. Leaders were able to incorporate these tools and use them to improve their own team dynamics.

THE RESULTS

By aligning their plans with the larger campaign objectives, leaders helped their teams work together toward a shared win. They also brought the skills they’d learned in the workshops back to their teams, increasing efficiency and efficacy across the department and building better communication into the team culture.
