CASE STUDY

Advancing Medical Malpractice Reform

The Challenge

In New Mexico, the Medical Malpractice Act (MMA) faced substantive revisions in the legislature for the first time in decades. Systems across the state wanted to speak with a unified voice and drive legislative action that considered the needs of all New Mexicans to build a sustainable foundation that would encourage clinicians to practice in New Mexico. Providers also faced significant opposition from a group funded by New Mexico Trial Lawyers.

The Solution

  • We helped convene the New Mexico ClinicianCoalitioncomprised of seven healthcare providersand advocacy organizations, to represent diversevoices and clinician needs from across the state.
  • Using a unified voice, we created a crisp, compelling story about the benefits of coalition-endorsed legislation to neutralize opposition efforts.
  • We activated a two-phase education and advocacy effort, including.

Phase 1: Education

  • Impactful, top-of-mind messaging
  • Microsite launch
  • Clinician stories
  • Social & earned media campaign

Phase 2: Advocacy

  • Clinician activation
  • Direct advocacy
  • Issue marketing and targeted ads
  • Collateral for legislative outreach
